Carrollton Public Library Offers Access to Global Periodicals

Read thousands of magazines and newspapers in more than 70 languages from over 120 countries with just a Carrollton Public Library card.

CPL began offering the free PressReader app in late September and its use has steadily grown as more patrons have discovered the tool that provides sponsored access to publications such as The Dallas Morning News, Chicago Tribune, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and many more.Cardholders can enjoy reading their hometown newspapers wherever in the world they are from.

Popular magazines such as US Weekly, Variety, Newsweek,Women's Health, Elle, Car and Driver, Esquire, and Popular Mechanics are included in the service. Users can search for their favorite newspapers and magazines as well as customize the categories for their hobbies and interests.

"PressReader allows CPL to deliver a wealth of content, from around the globe, in an easy-to-use platform and fills the community need for eNewspapers and eMagazines," said Marci Rossi, Carrollton's Collection Resources Supervisor.

Digital newspapers and magazines are not only convenient as information is literally at users' fingertips through a smartphone or computer, but old newspapers and magazines are no longer stacked up at home, being transported to a recycling center, or ending up in the landfill.

In addition to the PressReader smartphone app, both Josey Ranch Lake and Hebron & Josey locations offer PressReader through the Library's computers, and both offer hotspots to access PressReader by smartphone, tablet, and personal computer. To use the free app, patrons will need to create a PressReader account with their Library card.

Step-by-step instructions on how to download and use PressReader are available by clicking "Digital Publications" under the "Books & More" section at cityofcarrollton.com/library.
