Fighting for student borrowers

The Republican-led Education and the Workforce Committee approved aresolution to block President Biden's student debt relief plan Wednesday. The President wants to forgive up to $10,000 in student loan debt for most student borrowers and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. The Republican resolution would not only stop the debt relief, but also force borrowers to pay back costs that were waived during the student loan repayment pause in place from September through December, 2022-including interest payments, payments on defaulted loans, and paused monthly payments during the covered period. Needless to say, this resolution would deeply harm student borrowers in every state and territory, including the Marianas. I spoke out against the measure and voted against it along with every fellow Committee Democrat.
