Pueblo Fire Chief Barb Huber Honored by American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming

PUEBLO-City of Pueblo Fire Department Chief Barb Huber will be honored as a community champion at the Rocky Mountain Heroes Soiree by American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming on Sat., March 16.

"I am extremely honored to receive this award as a community champion from the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming," said Chief of Pueblo Fire Department Barb Huber. "I'm passionate about the work the Red Cross does and have enjoyed being a partner with them for many years, but this recognition still comes as a surprise."

Chief Huber has been committed to partnership with the American Red Cross and to her community outside of her job duties with the Pueblo Fire Department. She volunteered with the American Red Cross from 2016 to 2019 and participated in the home fire campaign. More recently she has initiated smoke detector installation campaigns and assisted with volunteer events during her time as Fire Chief.

"We are proud to honor Chief Huber as a Community Champion," said Phil Martinez, executive director, American Red Cross of Southeastern Colorado. "Her partnership with the Red Cross is an important step in helping to keep the community safe. I'm proud of the work we've been able to accomplish with Chief Huber in the Pueblo community and look forward to many more years to come."

Chief Huber has been the Pueblo Fire Department Chief since August of 2019. During her tenure with the City of Pueblo she has held the position of Captain, emergency medical officer and Firefighter. Before and during her career as a firefighter, Chief Huber served in the Air Force National Guard and the United State Air Force Reserves for 20 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire Management from Colorado State University in 2003.

Throughout her career Chief Huber has been committed to safety and service. She has received numerous awards and recognitions including the Chief's Award in 2018, Fire Captain of the Year in 2015 and Firefighter of the Year in 2014.

The Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming every year in March, recognize community champions who exemplify service in their community. This includes members of the military, first responders, teachers, medical staff or anyone who has gone above and beyond to serve others.
