Cybersecurity: Dept. of Homeland Security and FBI Learn About Modern Agriculture

Last week AEM conducted a webinar for nearly 90 Department of Health Services and FBI cybersecurity agents to educate them on the current state of off-road equipment technology, the flow of agricultural data and the connectivity of farming operations.

The webinar was a follow up to a DHS and FBI presentation to the Joint Sectors during the February AEM Board meetings in Washington, D.C. DHS and FBI informed board members of the Federal resources and avenues to cooperate with them to enhance the equipment industry's cybersecurity.

The webinar was titled: Vehicle-Borne Cyber Systems Used in Precision Farming.

"This was just the latest in what we see as a long-term relationship with DHS and FBI," said AEM Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs Nick Tindall. "Cybersecurity threats will continue to evolve and educating the agencies assigned to protect American cyberspace on the technological state of our sector is critical to our own defense."

Presenters included:

  • Mike Gomes, Vice President, Topcon and AEM Ag Sector Board member
  • John Leinart, Product Cybersecurity Lead, John Deere
  • Ben Craker, Project Manager, AgGateway
  • Alex Roberts, Senior Solutions Architect, AGCO

DHS and FBI were very appreciative of AEM's proactive and positive outreach on this topic. The next step will be to host a number of groups from DHS and FBI for tours of exhibits at the upcoming Celebration of Construction on the National Mall, May 14-16 in the heart of Washington, D.C.
