Prague bourse back to growth, driven by Erste, Komercni banka, CEZ

Prague, Jan 4 (CTK) - The Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) strengthened markedly after a one-day drop today, its headline PX index adding 1.33 percent to 1,438.01 points, according to data from the bourse's website.

The index thus returned to its highest levels since February 2022, where it climbed on Tuesday, the first trading day of this year. Today's strengthening was driven mainly by the shares of Erste Bank, Komercni banka and energy company CEZ.

Erste Bank was the main driver of the market growth, rising by 2.31 percent to Kc921.40 per share. "The index also benefited from Komercni banka's 2.01 percent rise to Kc737 amidst the highest daily volume of Kc121m," Fio banka broker Josef Dudek said.

CEZ gained 1.45 percent to Kc979 per share.

Arms manufacturer Colt increased by 1.47 percent to Kc554 and Moneta Money Bank by 0.43 percent to Kc94.20.

Pharmacy chain Pilulka Lekarny gained added 2.87 percent to Kc287. "Its shares have already firmed by 16.7 percent in a few days since the end of last year," said Wood & Company broker Vladimir Vavra.

The only losers were beverage maker Kofola, which shed 0.73 percent to Kc273, and tobacco firm Philip Morris, which lost 0.25 percent to Kc15,780.

Shares of Slovak industrial company Gevorkyan stayed flat, clsoin at Kc272 apiece.
