Emeriti College Award-Winners Celebrated at Spring Reception

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Emeriti Faculty Association recognized the 2024 Emeritus College Award recipients at their annual Spring Reception on Wednesday, April 24 in Birger Hall.

Totaling $7700 in awarded grants, tenure and tenure-tracked faculty proposals were reviewed and selected by the Emeriti Awards Committee. This year's committee was comprised of seven Emeriti Faculty Association members: David Ault, PhD, Greg Budzban, PhD, Mary Ann Boyd, PhD, Christine Durbin, PhD, Stephen Hansen, PhD, Rich Keating, PhD, and Laura Bernaix, PhD. The awards approved for recommendation were then approved by the Association's Board of Directors.

In a statement, Hansen, Ault and Bernaix, speaking on behalf of the Awards Committee, reflected on the importance of their legacy by supporting SIUE's commitment to excellence by current SIUE faculty members.

"When we were members of the faculty, we cared about excellence in education," Hansen, Ault and Bernaix said. "As members of the Emeriti College, we still do. We believe in the importance of investing in the current faculty to strengthen the academic quality of SIUE."

The committee reviewed eight proposals for funding. Each project inspired their support and compassion for SIUE's faculty initiatives.

"We are pleased to provide funding for the following four projects in FY24-25 cycle. Although we could not fund all of the eight proposals we received, each demonstrates faculty commitment to the quality of education offered by SIUE."

The four winning proposals are listed below. The grants will fund faculty projects in the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and the School of Nursing.

The Emeriti Faculty Association provides opportunities for emeriti faculty and their spouses to remain connected to each other and continue to serve as active members of the SIUE campus community.
