The University applied for funding for the following three profiling areas: Ageing, environment and functioning (ENVIS-AGE), Quantum simulations and measurements for nanotechnology (qSIME) and Understanding learning variability, change, and support (ULearn). Rector Jari Ojala will decide on the distribution of funding between the fields of research.

"I am delighted for the profiling areas, because this funding will enable them to promote multidisciplinary and innovative research aimed at international breakthroughs," says Vice Rector Kaisa Miettinen. "We dared to hope for an even larger amount, as we received very positive feedback from the panel of experts who evaluated the applications. We are very pleased to have received funding in all of the profiling application rounds."

Profiling accelerates and supports the development of research quality in line with the strategy of the University of Jyväskylä. According to the Research Council of Finland, the successful applications were able to clearly describe how the selected profiling areas contribute to the strategic strengths of the university, and how they are coordinated and monitored within the university.

The Research Council of Finland supports Finnish universities in further developing their research profiles based on their strategies and reinforcing the conditions for high-quality research. In total, universities applied for 200 million euros and were granted 100 million euros. The funding varies between 2.1 million euros and 30.3 million euros. Funding was granted for eight universities. The funding to strengthen the research profiles of universities in Finland has been available since 2015. The University of Jyväskylä has received 3.7-5.6 million euros in funding on all earlier funding rounds.
