EMPOWER Program Seeks Students for In-House Mentorship Opportunity

The EMPOWER program is seeking U of A students to fill new in-house mentorship opportunities.

EMPOWER stands for Educate, Motivate, Prepare, Opportunity, Workplace readiness, Employment, Responsibility. It's a four-year, non-degree experiential learning program in the College of Education and Health Professions that incorporates functional academics, independent living, employment, health and wellness, and social skills within a university setting. Participants build skills, strong friendships and support structures for life.

In-house mentors live with students enrolled in the EMPOWER program. "Residential mentors get to connect with students with intellectual disabilities on a personal level and assist students with learning communication, independent living and interpersonal skills," said mentor Hannah Bailey, a senior educational studies major.

A residential mentor's room and board is paid as part of their commitment.
