Venstre make gains in Norwegian local election

ALDE Party member Venstremade significant gains in Norway's local elections on 11 September, winning 256 seats across 214 municipalities.

All seats were up for election in municipal and county councils across the 15 counties of Norway. Liberals increased their countrywide vote share to 5% as compared to 4% in the 2019 elections, establishing themselves as Norway's sixth-largest political party.

In the capital Oslo, liberals won 9% of the vote and could enter into government in the city council.

Venstre, led by Norway's former Minister of Education Guri Melby, retains eight members in the Norwegian Parliament until the country's next general elections in 2025.

ALDE Party Co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP said: "Congratulations to Venstre and Guri Melby on your election results! The liberal family will always with you in the fight for a greener, freer Norway."
