Rep. David Clark’s Legislation Bringing Advancements to Healthcare Practices and Maternal and Infant Health Policies Signed into Law

ATLANTA - State Representative David Clark (R-Buford) recently joined Governor Brian Kemp as he signed House Bill 1046 into law. This legislation grants advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants the authority to complete and sign death certificates under the supervision of a physician and creates the Georgia Commission on Maternal and Infant Health.

Clark. "This legislation is a testament to our commitment to providing the best possible care for all Georgians, and I am grateful to Governor Kemp for his support in enacting this crucial legislation."

In addition to allowing advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants to complete and sign death certificates under the authority of a physician, HB 1046 establishes the Georgia Commission on Maternal and Infant Health, tasked with making policy recommendations on perinatal care programs and developing quality metrics. The commission, comprising 14 members appointed by state leadership and including key healthcare stakeholders, such as the commissioner of the Department of Public Health and the chief executive officer of the Georgia Research Alliance, will help in shaping the future of maternal and infant healthcare in our state.

Representative David Clark represents the citizens of District 100, which includes portions of Forsyth, Gwinnett and Hall counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2014 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Economic Development & Tourism, Education and Interstate Cooperation committees.
