ISU seeks volunteers to monitor corn rootworms

Western and northern corn rootworms pose a significant threat to corn crops in Iowa and the broader Midwest, showing a remarkable ability to adapt to various management strategies.

The larvae of these pests feed on corn roots, reducing nutrient absorption and water uptake, while also causing stalk lodging.

Additionally, adult rootworms can disrupt pollination by feeding on above-ground parts of the plant, including silks and pollen.
