MSUM Celebrates 20 Years of Children's Literature with Comstock-Gág Read Aloud Book Award Program

Minnesota State University Moorhead celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Comstock-Gág Read Aloud Book Award Program on Thursday, April 25, at 4 p.m., beginning with a social hour in the Livingston Lord Library Porch (700 13th St. S., Moorhead), where guests can mingle and enjoy refreshments.

Author Shannon Stocker, winner of the 2023 Comstock Award for her book Listen: How Evelyn Glennie, a Deaf Girl, Changed Percussion, will present the keynote speech. Stocker's address will delve into the profound impact of disability representation in children's literature and the transformative power of storytelling in shaping perceptions and nurturing empathy.

The evening will continue with a look back at the rich history of the Read Aloud program and culminate with the announcement of the 2024 award winners. Following the announcement, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase copies of the award-winning books.

About the Comstock-Gág Read Aloud Book Awards program

The Comstock-Gág Read Aloud Book Award program supports the Comstock Read Aloud Book Award and the Wanda Gág Read Aloud Book Award. The MSUM Livingston Lord Library's Curriculum Materials Center staff administers the awards program, which is partially funded by the Solomon G. Comstock Memorial Fund of the Minneapolis Foundation and the Wanda Gág Book Award Fund of the MSUM Alumni Foundation.
