Trump’s MAGA Veepstakes: Doug Burgum Wants to Rip Away Freedoms and Rig the Economy for the Ultra-Wealthy with Trump Arrow

As Trump VP contender Doug Burgum speaks at the North Carolina GOP convention today, DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

"Donald Trump has put Doug Burgum on his VP shortlist because they share the same extreme MAGA agenda of ripping away women's freedoms and rigging the economy for the ultra-wealthy at the expense of America's middle class. Burgum's extreme MAGA record includes signing one of the most cruel abortion bans in the country and saying out loud what the American people already know: Trump is the candidate for special interest billionaire backers. Burgum has touted Trump's failed MAGAnomics tax scam that gave handouts to the ultra-wealthy and big corporations and supports repealing President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act that is lowering costs for working families - North Carolinians won't buy what Burgum and Trump are selling."

Doug Burgum signed a near-total abortion ban in North Dakota with no exceptions for rape or incest after six weeks - something he was able to do because Trump overturned Roe v. Wade.

New York Times: "North Dakota became the latest state on Monday to enact a near-total ban on abortion, just one month after the State Supreme Court temporarily blocked a similar ban from taking effect. Under the new law, an abortion in the case of rape or incest would be permissible only in the first six weeks of pregnancy, a time when most women have not yet realized they are pregnant."

Burgum has long been a cheerleader for Trump's failed MAGAnomics agenda of rigging the economy for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations at the expense of working families.

Burgum: "Our state has built a strong and growing economy on reducing individual and corporate income tax rates, common-sense regulations and a business-friendly environment, and this federal tax reform legislation - combined with the Trump administration's tremendous progress in rolling back burdensome regulations - will spread those principles nationwide."

Burgum: "His policies are all in the right direction. If you're a billionaire… you should be voting for [Trump]."

CNBC: "Trump VP prospect Doug Burgum and GOP megadonor Harold Hamm are allies in business and politics"

Burgum supports repealing the Inflation Reduction Act, historic legislation that is helping to lower costs while ensuring that big corporations pay their fair share.

Burgum on whether he would push to repeal the IRA: "Yeah."

Trump's MAGAnomics tax scam gifted handouts to the ultra-rich and big corporations while leaving working families behind.

Forbes: "Trump Tax Cuts Helped Billionaires Pay Less Taxes Than The Working Class In 2018"

CBS News: "Two years after Trump tax cuts, middle-class Americans are falling behind"

The Guardian: "They were billed as a 'middle-class miracle' but according to a new book Donald Trump's $1.5tn tax cuts have helped billionaires pay a lower rate than the working class for the first time in history."

Washington Post: "One of President Donald Trump's lesser-known but profoundly damaging legacies will be the explosive rise in the national debt that occurred on his watch. The financial burden that he's inflicted on our government will wreak havoc for decades, saddling our kids and grandkids with debt. The national debt has risen by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump's time in office.

"The growth in the annual deficit under Trump ranks as the third-biggest increase, relative to the size of the economy, of any U.S. presidential administration, according to a calculation by Eugene Steuerle, co-founder of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center."

Politico: "The nation's fiscal outlook looks ever bleaker, thanks in part to deficit spending during President Donald Trump's first term, Congress' nonpartisan budget scorekeeper projected Tuesday."

Don't forget: Trump owns the worst jobs record in modern American history.

Fortune: "Trump to leave office with the worst jobs record since Herbert Hoover"

Washington Post: "President Trump took office at the crest of the longest economic expansion in U.S. history. He leaves presiding over the worst labor market in modern U.S. history, as an already-sputtering economic recovery has turned negative."

Bloomberg: "Trump's Jobs Record Fell Short of Promises Even Before the Virus"

Trump is now rooting for the economy to crash to help his political standing.

Trump: "And when there's a crash - I hope it's going to be during this next 12 months because I don't want to be Herbert Hoover. The one president I just don't want to be, Herbert Hoover."

Daily Beast: "Donald Trump admitted Monday that he wants a severe economic downturn to happen during the next year, because it will help his odds of winning the presidential election."
