Construction Resumes Week of April 3rd on the South Broad and Locust Streets Intersection Improvement Project

Philadelphia - Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today that construction activities for the Broad and Locust Streets Modified Intersection Improvement Project will resume during the week of April 3rd. Construction activities for the final phase of the project are expected to be completed in approximately one month, weather permitting. The work will include temporary, short-term lane closures and parking restrictions for utility manhole casting adjustments, pavement milling, and asphalt placement to meet elevation of the newly constructed sidewalks and curbs.

Construction activities will occur in stages over the next several weeks. The contractor will be working during daytime hours of 9am to 3pm to adjust utility manhole castings. There will also be work during the overnight hours of 7pm to 6am for staged milling operations. Final asphalt paving will occur weekday during daytime hours of 9am to 3pm, as well as Saturday mornings after 7am. Each of these construction activities will be done in stages to best ensure all modes of traffic continue to flow through the intersection and access to businesses are maintained. The public should expect lane closures and parking restrictions in the vicinity of the Broad and Locust Street intersection for utility casting adjustments that will be in effect for 24 hour periods, so there may be short term traffic disruptions. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained through the intersection.

Work is being performed by Carusone Construction, Inc. of Philadelphia. Construction is expected to be completed by end of April 2023. The value of the construction contract is $937,279.00, and it is being financed with 100% Federal funding.

The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during the construction phase.
