Minister Tajani’s visit to the “Bambini in Emergenza” Foundation

During his mission to Bucharest, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani visited the "Bambini in Emergenza" Foundation, which was created in the late 1990s by Italian journalist Mino Damato to help abandoned children with AIDS and, more recently, abandoned children with disabilities.

"The "Bambini in Emergenza" Foundation is one of the most significant examples of the work of associations and other Italian entities in Romania in the field of social inclusion and support to the weakest segments of the community", said Tajani, adding that "the late Mino Damato and his wife, Silvia Saini, who is continuing his work, are extraordinary ambassadors of our country and of our values of solidarity and humanity".

In 1997, the Foundation, which promotes the fostering and adoption of children, opened the Pilot Centre in Singureni, about 30 km south of Bucharest. The Centre is equipped with group homes, a church, a coordination structure (with offices, clinics and guest quarters), a Montessori kindergarten, a playground, a football pitch and a gymnasium. The facility cooperates with the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi, who look after the children together with volunteers.
