Earth Month - So Many Ways to Care for Our Planet!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 20th for a full day of Napa Earth Day events. Start off the morning with the Resource Conservation District at their community cleanup sites! Sign up to volunteer at the Napa Earth Day Celebration! The team still needs some hands for the morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. Attend and support the Napa Earth Day Celebration in funding local scholarships and fieldtrips that directly benefit our schools!

As we enter Earth Month, we should all be thinking about what we can do to make a difference in keeping our planet and community healthy and safe. Consider these habits you can put into practice this month and beyond:

  • Cut down on car trips by biking, walking, taking transit, or carpooling. If you are considering getting a new car, make the switch to an electric or hybrid.
  • Think before you buy, and plan before you shop. Grocery lists cut down on food waste.
  • Eat lower on the food chain or consider doing one or more days a week meatless.
  • Opt into Marin Clean Energy's Deep Green 100% renewable energy service program, costing the average household only $5 more per month and supporting local clean energy efforts.
  • Apply a layer of mulch between trees and other plants to reduce evaporation and the need for watering.
  • Water your lawn wisely to save water and effort. If the grass springs back up after being stepped on, it does not need watering.
  • Reduce energy during the peak hours of 4pm-9pm every day.
  • Compost your food scraps to prevent harmful methane greenhouse gas production, which is released from organics that sit in landfills.

Looking to make some energy efficient home improvements?

  • Look into Greywater Systems, a heat recovery system that captures heat energy to preheat cold water entering the water heater or going to other water fixtures.
  • Look into Heat Pump Water Heaters, a system that extracts heat from air or ground to warm your water, helping you to cut your costs and help the planet!
  • Install Induction Stove Tops, these stove tops shave your cooking time by 50% due to the rapid speed of the electromagnetic cycle. Saves you time and money.
  • Install solar panels to bring direct renewable energy to your home and cut out or down on your electricity bill - with the ability to sell back any excess energy. Over time, a solar panel investment will more than pay for itself.
