Selling Strategies for Homasote 440 SoundBarrier

Homasote 440 SoundBarrier® helps control sound in floors and walls, making it easy for dealers to add a sound-control upgrade to their inventories. For floors, 440 SoundBarrier is an alternative to liquid gypsum; this opens up conversation opportunities with pro customers who typically would source direct while helping contractors save money, reduce weight, and elevate their projects for increased comfort and well-being.

To ensure it makes it into the sale, here are a few strategies for dealers to consider.

1. Stay aware and don't change the spec: With vast expertise in sound control and products, Homasote and Weyerhaeuser Distribution are experts at getting SoundBarrier into projects. If it's Homasote, know you can participate and that you can get it from your Weyerhaeuser distributor. In other words, if you see it on the spec, don't count it out.

2. Lean on your manufacturer for support: Your Homasote representative can help educate builders on the advantages of 440 SoundBarrier versus methods like liquid gypsum or resilient channel. Leverage their expertise for in-person education, internal product knowledge sessions, and customer consultations.

3. Leverage relationships with architects: If you have specialists on staff who work with architects, make sure they understand the value of 440 SoundBarrier and arrange lunch and learns to educate their staff and secure the spec. Also, make them aware of the Homasote BIM content and Revit options that can streamline their processes.

4. Understand-and sell-the value versus gypcrete: Using a product like Homasote 440 SoundBarrier requires contractors to make a change from what they're used to, but it offers a number of benefits versus liquid gypsum that can make it easy to switch. 440 SoundBarrier is less expensive, lighter weight, can be supplied by traditional LBM dealers, and can be installed by framers. For walls, 440 SoundBarrier requires less interior framing material, providing for potential cost savings, and it does not introduce excessive moisture. In addition, 440 SoundBarrier maintains its sound deadening properties, whereas gypsum may lose some of its properties over time.
