The CMA CGM Foundation and Salaam Baalak Trust to open 4 additional educational childcare centers in Mumbai

Development of 4 educational childcare centers for children in street situations in Mumbai Metropolitan Region

The CMA CGM Foundation and Salaam Baalak Trust will develop four educational childcare centers for children in street situations in areas inhabited by large street communities of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The centers will be located in Ambujvadi Malvani, Kannamwar Nagar Vikhroli, Ganpat Patil Nagar Dahisar, and Turbhe.

By July 2024, these centers will offer 650 children in street situations the chance to participate in introductory, formal, and non-formal education, as well as extra-curricular activities such as sports and drama. Additionally, they will provide nutritional and childcare support to these children. The goal of these centers is to provide care for children who have limited access to formal education, as well as to stimulate their interest in learning and subsequent uninterrupted access to a formal school system.

Depending on the findings from baseline studies, the centers will open in phases, aligned with the academic year. They will function as child support and education centers, providing a healthy environment for the overall development and growth of these children.

A shared commitment to improve access to education for all in India

Since 2005, the CMA CGM Foundation has partnered with associations to implement over 450 educational initiatives worldwide.

In 2023, it partnered with CRY - Child Rights and You - in India to develop three educational centers in Chembur, Mumbai. These centers will welcome over 500 out-of-school children this year.

Established in 1989, Salaam Baalak Trust supports and cares for children in street situations and has welcomed hundreds of children into its centers over the past 35 years.
