UPDATE: Town Facilities Open at Noon on Feb. 2, Republic Services Resumes Collection Feb. 3

UPDATE (Feb. 2, 8:40 a.m.): Punxsutawney Phil is predicting six more weeks of winter, but at least today things seem to be turning around! Road conditions are generally good (thanks to our amazing Public Works team!), especially on the eastern side of town. Roads out west still have some accumulation, but FM 1171 is clear and U.S. 377 is improving. We expect the rising temperatures and the continued hard work of our crews will make a big impact this morning. Public Works continues to hit spots where ice is still lingering, and as it turns to slush, they're working quickly to plow it off. The Gerault Road flyover bridge has reopened, and while it's still currently closed, Town crews are working with the City of Grapevine to reopen Fairway Drive at Lakeside Parkway this morning.

As you venture out today, please reduce your speed and give yourself more time, in case you need to navigate some slick areas.

Town Facilities

Town facilities will open today at noon, as planned. This includes Flower Mound Town Hall, Municipal Court, Senior Center, Animal Adoption Center, Community Activity Center, and Library. The Parks Board meeting scheduled for tonight will still take place at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Trash Collection

Republic Services will resume collections tomorrow, Feb. 3. Thursday's residential customers will be serviced on Friday, and Friday's residential customers will be serviced on Saturday, Feb. 4. All services will resume as usual on Monday, Feb. 6. Collection for commercial customers will resume today, Feb. 2, and will start with critical customers first. Republic will continue commercial collections Friday and Saturday to get caught up.

---

UPDATE (Feb. 1, 4:15 p.m.): We've got a quick afternoon update! While we've seen less precipitation than expected today and some melting, we expect everything to refreeze after sunset when temperatures drop. We are under an Ice Storm Warning until 9 a.m. tomorrow, so please continue to stay home if you can.

Town Facilities Delayed Opening

All Town offices and facilities will have a delayed opening on Thursday, Feb. 2. Flower Mound Town Hall, Municipal Court, Senior Center, Animal Adoption Center, Community Activity Center, and Library will open at noon. We are continuing to monitor weather conditions, and Town staff will reassess the situation Thursday morning. If the decision to close Town facilities and offices is made at that time, we will update you on our social media channels and the Town's website. As always, police, fire, emergency services, and essential employees will remain in operation at all times.

Trash Collection

Republic Services will resume collections for Thursday's residential customers this Friday, Feb. 3. Friday's residential customers will be serviced on Saturday, Feb. 4. All services will resume as usual on Monday, Feb. 6. Collection for commercial customers will resume Thursday, Feb. 2, and will start with critical customers first. Republic will continue commercial collections Friday and Saturday to get caught up.

Road Conditions

We've seen widespread freezing rain with some sleet today. Warmer temperatures caused some of the accumulated ice to melt, but we expect everything to refreeze as temperatures drop this evening. Road conditions continue to be slick and are expected to worsen into Thursday morning. Our Public Works crews are continuing 24-hour sanding and plowing operations. Fairway Drive at Lakeside Parkway and the Gerault Road flyover bridge remain closed. Some other dangerous areas we're keeping an eye on include U.S. 377 between FM 1171 and Roanoke, Canyon Falls Drive at U.S. 377, and FM 1171 at Tour 18 Drive. These roadways are open, but should be avoided if possible. It's best to stay home if you can.

Power Outages

As ice accumulates tonight, we could see damage to trees and power lines, resulting in power outages. In the event of a weather-related power outage, please report outages in the following ways:

UPDATE (Feb. 1, 8:50 a.m.): We're once again asking that you stay home today if you can. Road conditions are only expected to worsen as waves of wintry precipitation continue to glaze roadways with dangerous layers of ice. Here's the latest:

Our amazing Public Works crews are continuing 24-hour sanding and plowing operations. But roadways are still slick and many are covered in black ice. Fairway Drive at Lakeside Parkway is now closed, and as a reminder, the Gerault Road flyover bridge will remain closed throughout this weather event. U.S. 377 between FM 1171 and Roanoke has reopened, but should be avoided if possible. Again, stay home if you can, but if you have to go out, proceed with extreme caution.

Power Outages

Power outages and tree damage will become more likely today due to increasing ice accumulation. UPDATE (Jan. 31, 3:45 p.m.): We're not done with the ice and sleet yet, Flower Mound. Slick conditions on roads in town are making travel difficult, and we are currently still under a Winter Storm Warning. Beginning Feb. 1 at 6 a.m., an Ice Storm Warning will go into effect for our area. The National Weather Service predicts we could see a half inch of ice accumulation Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, making matters even more dangerous. Here's what you need to know as we continue to ride out this winter storm:

Trash Collection

Republic Services is canceling trash, recycling, and bulk material collections on Wednesday, Feb. 1. We'll share the schedule for the remainder of the week and any makeup plans once finalized.

Road Conditions

While we've really only seen light freezing rain and drizzle today, the freezing temperatures are keeping the precipitation that fell today and the already accumulated ice from melting. On Tuesday, Town staff closed portions of dangerous roadways including the flyover bridge at Gerault Road and FM 2499, as well as portions of U.S. 377. The flyover bridge will remain closed until this weather event is over. U.S. 377 is back open, but should be avoided if possible. Public Works crews are continuing sanding and plowing operations in Flower Mound. With worsening conditions in the forecast, we urge you to stay home if you can. If you have to travel, please use extreme caution.
