President Karis at a meeting with the Vice President of the Seychelles: together, small countries can make the world a better place

"Russia's brutality in Ukraine is brutality against the entire rule-based world order and the global community of nations must mobilise against it to hold Russia accountable," emphasised President Alar Karis in a meeting with Ahmed Afif, Vice President of the Seychelles.

The Estonian head of state expressed his appreciation that the Seychelles voted in favour of all six UN resolutions on Ukraine and has been very pro-Western when voting. "Together, small countries can make the world a better place," said the head of state.

The responsibility of countries in curbing climate change was discussed at the meeting - unfortunately, not all countries feel the same about this. "The small island nation of the Seychelles is an example of how everything possible is being done to curb climate change, yet the harmful effects of global warming are still reaching the country," said the Estonian head of state. President Karis asked the Seychelles to support Estonia's initiative to declare World Cleanup Day an International United Nations Day. "As our global partners are affected by environmental problems the most, declaring World Cleanup Day a United Nations Day would show that the international community cares about these problems and challenges," explained President Karis.

At the meeting, it was noted that digital development is at the centre of the interests of both Estonia and the Seychelles, and provides a good basis for further cooperation.
