New Record Set for Largest Display of Original Malay Poems at 5th Malay Language Fiesta

More than 60 schools and community partners came together to set a new Singapore Book of Records for the largest display of 764 original Malay poems (pantun) at the 5th Fiesta Bahasa (Language Festival) today.

2.Organised by the Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC), the biennial event aims to promote the use of Malay language beyond the classroom and enthuse students in the learning of Malay language. The theme for this year's Fiesta Bahasa is Bahasa Gemilang, Minda Cemerlang (Cultivating Brilliant Minds Through Language Excellence). Participants can take part in activities at the interactive learning booths by preschools, primary and secondary schools, and the National Library Board, and immerse themselves in the learning of the Malay language, literature, and culture.

3.At the event, guest-of-honour Dr Maliki Osman, Second Minister for Education and Chairperson of the MLLPC delivered a speech and presented awards to the winners of the Bicara Berirama (Choral Speaking Competition) and 1, 2, 3, Aksi! (Skit Competition). More than 390 students from 47 primary and secondary schools participated in this year's competition. Please refer to the Annex for the list of award winners.
