CONTRACT SIGNED FOR NEW DUBLANC BRIDGE

A contract worth over one million dollars has been signed for construction of the Dublanc Bridge.

The bridge was, which was damaged by Hurricane Maria, is an important access way in the community and will ease movement of residents when completed.

MP for the Colihaut Constituency, Hon. Catherine Daniel stated that she hopes that this bridge is completed by the start of the hurricane season.

'We are fast approaching the hurricane season and with commitment and dedication this project can and should be completed before the season begins. We expect from the contractor employment for some of the Dublanc folks. We expect to see some economic rewards and so we ask God to make this project easy and successful,' the MP noted.

Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit explained that based on suggestions from the residents, a concrete bridge was better suited for the community.

'Based on what you have said to us through your Pal Rep, you have declared this bridge to be priority number one and now the Government is delivering to you this priority. We all know that you could have had a bridge a long time ago, but we heard you when you said you didn't want a bailey bridge, you wanted a concrete bridge. So we had to wait for the design of the concrete bridge,' the PM stated.

Minister for Public Works, Hon. Cassanni Laville added that this bridge is part of Government's thrust to building 'Dynamic Dominica'.

'We have been known as a Government who builds resilient infrastructure and we have been doing so as part of our thrust to building a Dynamic Dominica. What we are commencing today is the unification of your beautiful village Dublanc and we are happy to be a part of that,' the Minister noted.

Chief Technical Officer in the Ministry of Public Works, Emile Lancelot outline the project's itinerary.

'This new bridge will be a composite structure, it will be a single span bridge built with reinforced concrete abutments to support steel beams on which a reinforced concrete deck and steel railings will be installed,' he explained.
