Event to Recognize Careers of Smokey Robinson and Ken Sunshine; Also Serve as Fundraiser for NAN's Ongoing, Non-Partisan Get Out the Vote Efforts Ahead of Crucial 2024 Elections

Los Angeles, CA (October 31, 2024) - Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), will be celebrated at a star-studded 70th birthday party in Los Angeles tonight, October 31, featuring Earvin "Magic" and Cookie Johnson, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Rep. Barbara Lee, Samuel L. and LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Cedric the Entertainer, and Anthony Anderson. The event at the Fairmont Century Plaza will help support NAN's non-partisan Get Out the Vote campaign, which seeks to activate the organization's more than 100 chapters on the importance of showing up for the 2024 elections.

Media Call Time:
Press can begin to arrive at the Fairmont Century Plaza at 5:30 p.m. PT. A marked media table will be set up before the entrance to the ballroom, and all covering are asked to check in there before proceeding further. If you have not RSVP'd already, please email [email protected]by 1 p.m. PT on Thursday, October 31st. Unconfirmed media can be credentialed at the door, but we will not be able to guarantee a red carpet spot.

Red Carpet:
Photos and interviews will be available for approximately an hour on the red carpet outside the ballroom beginning at 6 p.m. PT. A briefing with VIP names, photos, and titles will be provided to assist in your coverage. Upon arrival, confirmed media will have an assigned spot on the red carpet.

Honorees and VIPs will take the red carpet based on their arrival and availability. Please keep interviews or photo opportunities brief to ensure steady movement along the red carpet.

Event Coverage:
The event will begin promptly at 7 p.m. PT. Media is welcome to cover the program inside the ballroom, where a riser will be provided to television risers, with a direct shot of the stage. The throw is approximately 100 feet to the stage from the riser. Still photographers may shoot from the riser or along the walls of the ballroom, and a member of the press team can escort them to the stage to get direct shots.
