HEINRICH India, a leading provider of rail audio solutions across India, and Telecom contractor Larsen & Toubro secured the project. They were to design and deliver an integrated state-of-the-art Passenger Announcement System (PAS) and Passenger Information Display System (PIDS). This project aimed to realize MahaMetro's commitment to Nagpur.

Serving the bustling city of Nagpur in Maharashtra, the Nagpur Metro is a vital transportation network. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) manages it. Given Nagpur Metro's status as one of India's busiest services, the primary focus was high system availability.
This was crucial to ensure seamless operations even in the event of a failure. Effective functioning of PAS and PIDS is crucial for providing timely train schedules. Additionally, they are essential for general announcements and passenger alerts.
The Solution
Within the PAS scope, HEINRICH successfully deployed Zenitel's IP-enabled VIPEDIA range of products. These products consistently deliver high quality, high availability, and efficiency. The modular design of these audio products facilitates deployment in an active architecture. This design eliminates single points of failure and maximizes system availability. Zenitel's V2000s, featuring hot-swappable D150 and D500 amplifier cards, handle amplification. These amplifiers offer significant benefits in terms of maintenance and scalability. Plus, intelligent sleep technology lowered power requirements.
For seamless integration with the PIDS, HEINRICH leveraged Zenitel's VIPA-API interface, enabling synchronised audio and video messages across the network. This interface also connects to HEINRICH's central control and monitoring system, providing operators with real-time control and monitoring of all 42 locations, with provisions for future expansion as the metro network evolves.
The Result
The population of Nagpur now benefits from the advanced functionality of the integrated PIDS and Zenitel PAS systems. This ensures a forward-thinking and passenger-centric rail service. This solution delivers reliability, safety, and efficiency, enabling the Nagpur Metro to realise its full potential. It is a sustainable and technologically advanced mode of transportation for the people of India. It is also hailed as the greenest metro rail in India.
