CURIOUSCAST ORIGINAL PODCAST CRIME BEAT RETURNS WITH SEASON FIVE ON JANUARY 24

For Immediate Release

TORONTO, January 18, 2023 - Corus Entertainment's podcast network, Curiouscast, is pleased to announce that Season 5 of its award-winning original podcast, Crime Beat, will debut on January 24 across all platforms. The podcast is led by veteran Global News Crime Reporter Nancy Hixt and has also been adapted for TV.

In Crime Beat Season 5, 25-year veteran crime reporter Nancy Hixt takes audiences inside some of the most high-profile cases she has worked on and provides an exclusive access from the interview room to the court room.

"In this season of Crime Beat, I am taking listeners with me as I unravel some of the most complex and tragic cases I have ever worked on," said Nancy Hixt. "From random acts of violence, chilling, targeted killings and a gang war, I give an inside look at all these stories. You will hear directly from the people impacted, including several victims who have never shared their stories publicly before."

Since its debut in March 2019, the podcast has become one of Canada's most popular true crime podcasts, with over 16.3 million downloads to date and a growing audience in the US, UK and Australia. The podcast received the prestigious 2020 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best International Podcast, RTDNA awards in 2020 and 2021, and was named one of Amazon Music's Best Podcasts of 2022. Crime Beat has been adapted to TV, currently airing its fourth season on Global TV and streaming on Hulu in the US.

"We are thrilled to bring back a new season of Crime Beat and to shine a light on some of the darkest places," said Chris 'Dunner' Duncombe, Director of Podcasting and Streaming, Curiouscast/Corus Entertainment. "There continues to be so much interest from listeners to learn about these important stories and we're proud of the hard work, skill and dedication Nancy puts into this podcast week after week."

New episodes will be released every Tuesday. To listen to each episode of the podcast for free, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, or anywhere else podcasts are available. Season 5 of Crime Beat will also be available on the Global News YouTube channel.
