On August 8, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan and the Deputy Chair Armen Khachatryan met with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the Republic of Armenia (RA) Fan Yong, the Military Attaché for Defense Issues of the PRC Embassy, Senior Colonel An Qiang and the delegation of the Embassy.

The Committee Chair thanked the guests for the meeting and the cooperation between the two countries, emphasized the implementation of educational programmes, especially in the military bloc.

"Back in the 1990s, the visit of the Minister of Defense Vazgen Sargsyan to the PRC was highlighted, that's why we received military aid at that time. The same modus operandi still continues. After the 44-day war, our country is trying to learn the lessons of defeat. We are still making great efforts to achieve peace. In order for peace to prevail under the Chinese wall and, in general, in the world, there must be peace in the South Caucasus," the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security said.

In this context, Andranik Kocharyan noted that the security system of our country is ensured not only by the army, but also by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the National Security Service.

The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security also touched upon the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Our compatriots of Nagorno-Karabakh have been under siege for months: Excluding military operations, we should be able to solve the problem," the MP mentioned.

The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Armenia Fan Yong informed the parliamentarians of Armenia that there is a dynamic of development in Armenian-Chinese relations. He also noted that it is necessary to find ways to achieve peace in the region and especially in Armenia, therefore, cooperation in the security sector should be developed.

The Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Armen Khachatryan thanked the guests for highly appreciating the cooperation of the security system.

"It is also important for China that there is peace in Armenia, so it is necessary to take active steps," the Deputy Chair of the Committee said.

During the meeting, issues regarding the reforms of the military sphere, the development of Armenian-Chinese relations and cooperation between the National Assemblies of the two countries were discussed. Agreement was reached that such meetings would be continuous.
