The 2023 Suzhou Taihu Marathon attracts 23,000 runners

The 2023 Suzhou Taihu Marathon kicked off in Suzhou New District (SND) at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 23. Zhao Shuai and Zheng Shuyin, an Olympic champion couple, were invited to lead the race which attracted a total of 23,000 running enthusiasts from 19 countries and regions in the world.

Founded in 2015, the Suzhou Taihu Marathon has gained in popularity year by year. It has been designated as a World Athletics Elite Label road race by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and the Gold Label Road Race by the China Athletics Association (CAA). This year' event included a full marathon, a half marathon and a fun run attended by 6,000, 12,000 and 5,000 runners respectively.

The award ceremony was held at the SND Cultural & Sports Center. After fierce competition, Debele Gebise Lelisa from Ethiopia and Abigael Jelimo Mutai from Kenya won the men's and women's full marathon in 2:12:24 and 2:30:54, respectively. Chinese runners Hou Chaoming and Li Zhixuan finished the men's and women's half marathon first with a winning time of 1:11:09 and 1:13:51 respectively.

The 2023 Suzhou Taihu Marathon was sponsored by the Management Committee of Suzhou New District (SND) and jointly organized by the Publicity Department of the SND Party Working Committee, the SND Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and the SND Cultural Tourism Group Co., Ltd. The race had Suzhou New District High-tech Industrial Co., Ltd as its title sponsor.
