AAMC Urges Robust Funding for CDC

The AAMC joined several letters requesting robust funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and specific programs under its jurisdiction.

The association signed an April 9 letter (PDF) led by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the American Society for Microbiology urging the White House Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Health and Human Services not to rescind additional COVID-19 relief dollars from CDC, including funding currently supporting the Advanced Molecular Detection (AMD) program.

Looking toward future funding, alongside 170 other organizations in the CDC Coalition, the AAMC joined a March 26 letter (PDF) recommending at least $11.581 billion for the CDC in fiscal year (FY) 2025, a $2.381 billion (25.8%) increase over the final enacted FY 2024 funding level of $9.2 billion [refer to Washington Highlights, March 22]. The letter also states that the coalition opposes any efforts to cut funding for the agency's programs or attach damaging policy riders to the annual spending bill.

On April 12, the AAMC also joined a letter (PDF) led by the American Society for Microbiology urging leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to provide $175 million for the AMD program within the CDC's total funding in FY 2025.
