On- and off-ramp closures at Heyburn Interchange (Exit 211) - watch for detours

Shoshone-Motorists should plan ahead if travel includes the Heyburn Interchange today through Friday, May 3.

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is closing on- and off-ramps as part of reconstruction of the Heyburn Interchange. A detour is in place and will guide motorists through the project area. Drivers should follow signs and the reduced speed limit in the work zone.

Here's what to expect over the next couple of days:

  • Today and tomorrow - the eastbound on-ramp will be closed
  • Friday - the westbound off-ramp will be closed

All ramps will be open for the weekend, but drivers should expect intermittent closures in the project area over the next few weeks. Scheduled closures will be posted to 511.idaho.gov.

Traffic on I-84 remains reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph.

Reconstruction of the Heyburn Interchange is expected to cost $90.1 million while the Burley Interchange is expected to cost 85.1 million.

Built in the early 1960s, the interchanges have reached the end of their service lives. ITD is focused on improving safety, mobility, and economic opportunity for all users who travel these important agricultural and industrial routes.

Construction is being funded as part of Idaho Governor Brad Little's "Leading Idaho" transportation funding initiative. The Leading Idaho initiative allows ITD to take a deliberate approach to advance large projects that will enhance safety, improve mobility, further strengthen Idaho's economy and positively impact the Magic Valley and communities across the state for years to come.
