Statement of Mayor Gavin Buckley on the Passing of Annapolis Restaurateur Jerry Hardesty

Annapolis, MD (June 22, 2021) - I was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Jerry Hardesty. He was a major force as a person - especially his influence on the Annapolis restaurant scene as owner and operator of Middleton's Tavern. He will be missed by his family and the many friends he made over his decades as a business owner, an entrepreneur and a lover and promoter of music and the culinary arts.

When I first came to Annapolis in 1992, Jerry took a chance on me, hiring me as a waiter. It was the beginning of my new life in the world of restaurants in my newly adopted hometown.

Jerry was a very important person in Annapolis. I thank Jerry for his work on festivals and events, and the musical acts he brought to Annapolis at the longest-running musical venue in the City.
