Volkswagen provides journalists with facts, figures and data concerning the 77th German Cup Final

In cooperation with data experts from Stats Perform Volkswagen has created an information package of more than 30 pages, which clearly summarizes facts, figures, some surprises and records concerning the DFB Cup Final between defending champions FC Bayern Munich (19 times cup winners) and Bayer Leverkusen, the 1993 winners.

For example, it was 46 years ago that a Cup Final was last played at a later date: in 1974, the final match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Hamburger SV (3:1 after extra time) was played following the World Cup on August 17.

Plus: Volkswagen and the Cup Heroes 'Walk of Fame'

In its rich decades of history, the DFB Cup has made many footballers unforgettable heroes. In order to honor them, Volkswagen, together with the German Football Association and the TV sports channel SPORT1, launched the 'DFB Cup Walk of Fame' in 2013. Located at the Berlin Olympic Stadium, the greatest cup heroes of the past and present are immortalized with their footprints or (for goalkeepers and coaches) handprints. To date, 24 players that left their mark on the DFB Cup have been recorded. Among them Oliver Kahn, Kevin de Bruyne, or Thomas Radlspeck. Last year, Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski was honored as a Cup Hero. The complete list can be found here.

The candidates for the 2019/2020 season - up until the final match - are Ante Rebic (Eintracht Frankfurt/1st round), Lennart Grill (1 FC Kaiserslautern/2nd round), Daniel Baatz (1 FC Saarbrücken/quarterfinal) and Thomas Müller (FC Bayern Munich/semifinal). Following the final whistle on Saturday a jury will choose the 2019/2020 cup hero.
