Utility Billing adjusts hours, cash handling policy

The City of Mesquite's Utility Billing Division is changing its in-person hours and the way it processes cash payments.

Starting May 6, 2024, in-person hours for Utility Billing will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The change in hours will allow employees to process online requests, which include applications for new service, leak adjustment requests, and requests to disconnect service.

Another change that starts on May 6 is that Utility Billing Office will no longer provide change in amounts less than $1. Any additional amount of change owed to the customer will be automatically applied to the next month's bill as a credit.

Eliminating coins from the change-making process simplifies cash transactions for cashiers and makes paying in person faster for everyone. This change also will provide efficiencies to save on costs.

Customers paying in cash may continue to use coins when paying a utility bill in person, and customers are welcome to pay using exact change.

Besides in-person payment, utilities customers have many options to pay their bill that include:

  • Pay any time 24/7 online or through the automated phone payment system.
  • Set up an automatic recurring payment using MesquitePay.
  • Pay by mail using check or money order.
  • Drop off payment any time in the secure drop box in front of our office (please do not leave cash payments in the drop box).
  • Pay using cash or a debit card at Walmart using Walmart Bill Pay (WMBP). Visit the money center or customer service desk and tell the associate that you would like to pay your City of Mesquite bill using WMBP same-day processing.
  • Make a cash payment at any Fidelity Express location.
