Picturesque fishery close to Winchester comes to the market through Savills

Abbots Worthy Fishery has been in the same family since 1969, though let more recently, and has been maintained to a very high standard, offering first class fishing with excellent fly water. There is a mix of double and single bank fishing on the main river, as well as carrier streams which could suit all levels of ability.

There is a good head of wild trout, as the beat is not stocked, and superb grayling fishing. The aquatic fly life provides plenty of hatches including iron blue, large dark olive and mayflies.

The land at Abbots Worthy Fishery is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and totals about 33 acres of river frontage, grassland and woodland. While the land has been managed for the fishing and the woodland has been maintained, the grassland has been largely left, which has created a home for an abundance of wildlife including kingfishers and deer. The property is well protected with very little public access, aside from one footpath that runs along the northern boundary of the fishery.

Geoffrey Jones from the rural agency team at Savills Winchester said: 'This spectacular fishery is in an unspoilt location on the renowned River Itchen and presents a rare opportunity to buy prime chalkstream fishing close to central Winchester.'

Abbots Worthy Fishery is being marketed by Savills for a guide price of £1.1m.
