'Operation Clean Streets' Initiative Leads to Removal of +171,560 Lbs. Illegally Dumped Materials
Initiative aims to improve quality of life, promote public safety, and attract economic investment.
WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (June 1, 2022) -- Since the October 2019 launch of Mayor Keith A. James' Operation Clean Streets initiative to curb illegal dumping in our neighborhoods, 10 people have been arrested and more than 171,560 lbs. (86 tons) of illegally dumped material have been removed from city streets.
Operation Clean Streets aims to improve the quality of life for West Palm Beach residents by curbing or eliminating environmental hazards and waste that have been illegally disposed. These items may include landscaping and construction debris, household materials (sofas, mattresses and old furniture), and abandoned vehicles.
At the direction of Mayor James, Operation Clean Streets is led by a dedicated task force made up of representatives in environmental compliance, City code enforcement, and local, county and state law enforcement. The task force works to aggressively enforce illegal dumping laws; identify, tag and remove abandoned vehicles from City streets; and prosecute violators. Operation Clean Streets targets illegal dumping through education, enforcement and prevention. Tipsters who provide information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a reward of up to $500.
"Operation Clean Streets aims to improve the quality of life for all residents, attract economic investment to our city and promote public safety," said Mayor James. "We are constantly working to enhance the lives of all residents in every neighborhood. I am pleased with the considerable progress made to date."
Illegally discarded materials found, and ultimately removed.
