In early March, Walla Walla University students traveled to Brundage Ski Resort for a weekend filled with skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and all around fun in the snow. The trip was sponsored by the outdoors department of the Associated Students of Walla Walla University (ASWWU).

Eric Pratt, freshman biology major and trip leader for the Brundage trip, helped to facilitate lodging for the participants at Camp IdaHaven. Camp IdaHaven is a Seventh-day Adventist recreational facility located in McCall, Idaho, making it the perfect base camp for the Brundage trip. According to Pratt, everyone on the trip thoroughly enjoyed their stay and made fun memories at the camp.

ASWWU events and activities offer many leadership opportunities for students, but organizing an overnight ski trip required students to lead in unique ways. Pratt and others were responsible for obtaining lift tickets for the group and several student staff members led cross country skiing and snowshoeing expeditions. Others assisted in gear rentals and transportation and ensured everyone was equipped for plenty of time in the snow. By harnessing their leadership skills in a variety of ways, students were able to facilitate an exciting and memorable experience.

"Participating in ASWWU Outdoors expeditions helps students get a better sense of all the exciting options for outdoor hobbies," said Pratt. "It gives people fresh air, exercise, and the chance to make new friends." Pratt explained that expeditions led by ASWWU Outdoors often expose students to new activities. Many returned with a newfound passion for the outdoors.

Trips led by ASWWU Outdoors are open to all WWU students and provide an excellent way for beginners and seasoned recreators alike to take advantage of Walla Walla's location in the Pacific Northwest.
