Mondino and the Chinese Foreign Minister agree to boost the political and commercial relationship

On the last day of her official visit to China, in Beijing, Foreign Minister Mondino held a bilateral meeting and, later, a luncheon with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, with whom she discussed the key aspects of the political and economic relationship between both countries.

During the meeting, Mondino and Wang Yi highlighted the fact that, this year, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Argentina and China celebrates 10 years of cooperation on areas of mutual interest, in the context of the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and joint work for the benefit of both countries. The Foreign Minister was joined by the Secretary for Finance, Pablo Quirno, and the Governor of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, Santiago Bausili,

Mondino underscored the successful meeting with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, with whom she engaged in a frank and open dialogue, during which they highlighted their shared views and expressed their respect for their differences and where she reaffirmed Argentina's interest in evaluating the commitments agreed upon through various bilateral dialogue mechanisms, in order to achieve tangible progress regarding the priority issues for both parties.

"We concluded the analysis with the expectation that further meetings of the dialogue mechanisms may be convened, with a view to ensuring frequent, fluid and constructive dialogue on economic and commercial matters," Mondino stated. "We have agreed to strengthen and expand cooperation in terms of trade, investments, energy, infrastructure and tourism, among other topics," the Foreign Minister said, and added: "Argentina has changed administrations, but our country will continue to honour its contracts and obligations."

For his part, Wang Yi said that this second meeting with the Foreign Minister shows the importance that both countries attach to the development of their bilateral relationship and described the dialogue, held in the year that marks the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as profound and successful. In addition, the Chinese Foreign Minister wished the Argentine Government every success in the implementation of the economic reforms introduced for the country's growth and shared the views discussed during the meeting between both delegations, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation, based on mutual respect, support and trust.

Before the meeting with her Chinese counterpart, the Foreign Minister visited the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and met its vice chairman, Zhao Chenxin.

The NDRC is a ministerial-level agency in charge of planning and implementing medium and long-term strategies for Chinese economic and social development and for the overall management of investment. It is also the focal point of the existing bilateral mechanisms with Argentina regarding financing for infrastructure projects.

During the meeting, Mondino and Zhao Chenxin discussed cooperation and financing for transport, energy, mining and infrastructure-which both countries have been developing-and identified projects within the Strategic Dialogue for Economic Cooperation and Coordination.

The Foreign Minister offered an overview of the ongoing reforms aimed at promoting and facilitating trade and investments, and Vice Chairman Zhao Chenxin expressed his interest in giving a new boost to the cooperation projects within the Dialogue and proposed holding its sixth edition soon in order to promote them further.

In addition, the Foreign Minister held meetings with executives of China Energy (Gezhouba Group), Huawei Technologies, China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), ICBC (ICBC Argentina), ZTEC Corporation, AUDES Construcciones and Xiaomi, all of them co-organizers of the High-Level Meeting for the Promotion of Investments in Infrastructure for Development in Argentina.During the event, Argentine businesspeople shared their experiences and presented success stories to their Chinese counterparts.

The Foreign Minister concluded the busy agenda of her three-day official visit to China with a positive balance, including intense efforts to promote Argentina's exports in economic and trade fora, and meetings with businesspeople and CEOs of high-level Chinese companies to attract more investment projects. She also held working meetings with political and economic authorities, including the Chinese Vice President, Han Zheng; the Deputy Minister of Commerce and International Trade Representative, Wang Shouwen; and the Governor of the Bank of China, Pan Gongsheng.

These meetings, together with the successful working meeting held today with her counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and with the Vice Chairman of the NDRC, Zhao Chenxin, have made it possible to reaffirm the common agenda, in the context of a bilateral relationship based on mutual benefit, cooperation and respect.
