Statement by Deputy Assistant to the President for the Cancer Moonshot Dr. Danielle Carnival on New Proposed CMS Rule to Make Patient Navigation Services More Accessible for[...]

Today, Dr. Danielle Carnival, Deputy Assistant to the President for the Cancer Moonshot and Deputy Director for Health Outcomes of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, issued the following statement in support of a new proposal from the Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services (CMS) that marks progress toward Medicare patients benefitting from services and support that help them navigate their cancer journey:

"Thanks to the Biden Cancer Moonshot, the Biden-Harris Administration is taking a significant step toward making critical patient navigation services a covered benefit for Americans with Medicare coverage. President Biden and the First Lady have long been focused on expanding access to patient navigation services that guide individuals, caregivers, and families as they face a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. This proposed rule will help seniors and people with disabilities access the support they need during their cancer journey - support that improves the cancer experience for patients and their families, reduces disparities, and improves health outcomes. The Biden Cancer Moonshot will keep building on this foundation to achieve the goal we set as part of the President's State of the Union earlier this year: A future where effective patient navigation services are available to every American facing cancer."
