National Tribal TANF Characteristics Data

The Office of Family Assistance, Division of Tribal TANF has posted National Tribal TANF characteristics data for fiscal years (FY) 2016 to 2020. The characteristics data has been produced in tables for the following categories of information:

  • Number of individuals participating in Tribal TANF work activities, by activity
This table shows the number of work-eligible adults participating in Tribal TANF work activities in all Tribal TANF programs.
Participation is measured as whether an adult averaged at least one hour of participation in a given work activity. These data are at the individual adult level rather than at the family level.
  • Adults by work participation status
This table breaks out the number of adults in the TANF assistance caseload by work participation status. Like Table 1, these data are at the individual adult level rather than at the family level.
  • Adults by relationship to head of household
This table breaks out the number of adults in the TANF assistance caseload by their relationship to the head of household. Like tables 1 and 2, these data are at the individual adult level.
  • Types of families receiving assistance (e.g., one-parent, two-parent, child-only)
This table breaks out the TANF assistance caseload by family type based on the number of parents included in the assistance unit. These data are at the family level.
  • Families by the number of children in the family
This table breaks out the TANF assistance caseload by the number of children in each family. These data are at the family level.
  • Average age of recipient children
This table shows the number of children in the TANF assistance caseload by age group. In this table, the numbers of child recipients are clustered into age groups and data are at the individual child level.
