Nain RCMP arrests two impaired drivers

Nain RCMP arrested two people for impaired driving yesterday, February 28, 2024.

Nain RCMP received multiple reports yesterday of an impaired snowmobile operator in the community. Police made immediate patrols, located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Police administered a roadside breath test, which the driver failed. She was then taken to the detachment where further tests were administered, with results nearly three times the legal limit. She will face charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Later that night, just after 8:30 p.m., police observed a man suspected of operating a snowmobile while impaired. They approached the man when he stopped the vehicle and observed further signs of impairment. The driver was taken to the detachment where he refused to provide breath samples. He will face charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a demand and operation while prohibited.

Both people were released from custody and are set to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

The investigations are continuing.

RCMP NL thanks the public for continuing to report incidents of erratic or suspected impaired driving. Road safety is everyone's responsibility.
