NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH
WHEREAS, Preservation Month began as National Preservation Week in 1973,
and in 2005, the National Trust extended the celebration to the entire month of May and
declared it Preservation Month providing an even greater opportunity to celebrate the
diverse and unique heritage of our country's cities and states; and
WHEREAS, protection and preservation of historical sites and buildings provide
educational, scientific, and economic benefits for the citizens of Sumter County; and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the
significant ongoing contributions of the entities helping to preserve local historic sites
and buildings in Sumter County.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners of Sumter County,
Florida hereby proclaims:
