Celebrate Novato’s First Inclusive Playground at Pioneer Park

The City of Novato is excited to invite you to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Celebration at Pioneer Park to celebrate Novato's first adaptive playground designed to foster inclusive play for children of all abilities. Join us on Saturday, April 13, 11am at Pioneer Park, 1007 Simmons Lane for a Novato Fun celebration with speeches, engaging activities and light snacks.

This highly-anticipated inclusive park - the first of its kind in Marin - re-opened in December 2023, and now features two new play structures, thoughtfully designed with adaptive play elements, including:

  • ramps and platforms for individuals with mobility limitations;
  • rubberized play surfacing;
  • an Inclusive Whirl;
  • Expression Swings with an adaptive seat;
  • a Sensory Wave Rock N Raft;
  • umbrellas for shade;
  • new benches; and
  • perimeter fencing enclosing both play areas.

"Pioneer Park has been a popular destination since its reopening. We're pleased that these upgrades and improvements have created more opportunities for inclusive play for our adaptive needs community and their families," said Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Katie Gauntlett. "We look forward to joining in on the Novato Fun together and celebrating this milestone as a community."

In addition to the ribbon cutting, the Novato Police Department (NPD) will be hosting their fourth Pop-Up Police Station event at the celebration. You'll have the chance to connect with NPD's chief of police, police officers, dispatchers and more to learn more about the services they provide and give your feedback.

Please note: The Parking Lot at Pioneer Park will be reserved for ADA vehicles only, and attendees are encouraged to walk or bike to the event. Guests can park at the Square Shopping Center, cross Novato Boulevard at the crosswalk, then take the Reservoir Lane walking path to Pioneer Park. View the parking map here.
