Ambassador Armen Yedigarian visited the Center for Armenian Studies of Sofia St.Kliment Ohridski University

1 December 2022 Ambassador Armen Yedigarian visited the Center for Eastern Languages and Culture of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology of Sofia St.Kliment Ohridski University, held a meeting with Mr. Petar Goliyski, Director of Armenian and Caucasus Studies, the professors and the students of the study program.

The activities of the Center, as well as the nowadays challenges, the opportunities of deepening the cooperation with the center and the effective realization of the existing potential were thoroughly discussed.

Ambassador Yedigarian highlighted the interest of the Bulgarian society and especially students towards Armenian language and history and highly appreciated the devoted work of the professors wishing them success in their important mission.

Ambassador Yedigarian emphasized the importance of teaching the History of Armenia, especially having into account the fact that different powers continuously work to distort and rewrite the history of the region, to destroy the Armenian historical religious and cultural heritage, to change the identity and misappropriate the Armenian monuments.

The Armenian Ambassador attached great importance to efforts of the academic community to address those challenges.
