Mexico provides consular assistance after shooting in Uvalde, Texas

The Government of Mexico deeply laments the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where the death of at least 18 children and two adults, with several more injured, has regrettably been confirmed.

The Foreign Ministry extends its most sincere condolences to the families of the victims.

As has been reported, the gunman was killed by officers responding to the emergency.

The Mexican consulate in Eagle Pass is in contact with the police in order to identify any Mexican victims. In addition, the consulate in Eagle Pass and the Consulate General of Mexico in San Antonio are in communication with the hospitals to which the injured were taken to learn if there are any Mexican citizens among them.

The Government of Mexico strongly condemns this act of violence that has cost children's lives and devastated families in a predominantly Hispanic town.

The Foreign Ministry will make public the number of Mexicans involved when the information is confirmed by U.S. authorities, to ensure that it is reporting accurate and verified information.
