NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

Today (May 14, 2024), the NOPD arrested Christian Rand (black male, DOB: 04-26-2003) in its investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on May 12, 2024, at the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Clouet Street.

According to investigators, the adult male victim was operating a bicycle traveling on Clouet Street crossing North Claiborne Avenue when he was struck by the driver of a SUV traveling southbound on Clouet Street. After the driver of the SUV struck the bicyclist, the SUV fled westbound on North Claiborne Avenue. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the victim dead on the scene.

Detectives located and impounded the suspect vehicle on May 13. On May 14, Rand and his attorney arrived at the Special Operations Bureau. Upon questioning, Rand admitted to being the driver of the impacting vehicle. Rand was placed under arrest and subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of hit-and-run driving with serious bodily injury or death.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
