City Receives Grant for New Refrigerant System at Ice Arena

The City was recently awarded $525,000 in grant funding from the Municipal Park Grant Commission to switch over the ice arena's aging refrigeration system to a new system. The grant funding will cover approximately 25% of the $2 million project. The remaining project costs will come from the Capital Improvement Fund.

The ice arena's existing 19-year-old refrigerant system uses a refrigerant (R-22) that is no longer produced, environmentally unfriendly and expensive to replace. Selection and design of the new refrigerant system will be developed in early 2023, with installation scheduled in spring 2024.

The Municipal Park Grant Commission of St. Louis County provides grants to local municipalities to improve, restore and expand local parks, recreation programs and facilities. The Municipal Park Grant program was first formed in 2000 and is funded through sales taxes in St. Louis County. To date, the City of Creve Coeur has been awarded 10 grants totaling more than $2.6 million. Over the years, these funds have helped fund improvement projects such as new playgrounds, refurbished tennis courts, renovations to the Dielmann Recreation Complex, new golf cart paths at the Creve Coeur Golf Course, and improved walking paths in multiple parks.
