Coventry Extended Learning Centre goes from strength to new strength!

Following an OFSTED visit in June 2022, which identified that the new leader had a clear vision, Coventry Extended Learning Centre (CELC) has been on a significant improvement journey.

The CELC has gone from strength to strength. The school, that serves 120 pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools across the city, will now be joining forces with the well-established Solihull Alternative provision Multi Academy Trust (SAPMAT) - a specialist in this area of education.

The CELC reengages its pupils with their education and prepares them for their next step in education. Over the last two years a significant proportion of pupils have successfully returned to mainstream or specialist schools to complete their education, and over 90% of pupils completing their GCSEs last year have continued into education, employment and training post 16.

In order to improve the educational outcomes for its pupils, the CELC has worked alongside partner schools across the city and will continue to do be an integral part of the Coventry Education Partnership in the future.

Headteacher at the CELC Glenn Mellor said: "The team at the CELC have worked tirelessly to improve the outcomes for the young people that we serve.

"We have been ably supported by our partners across the city and our move to join the SAPMAT will allow our dedicated team and pupils to achieve even more."

Solihull Alternative Provision Multi Academy Trust CEO, Stephen Steinhaus said: "SAPMAT are so excited to have the CELC joining us from September. We have the potential to significantly change the perception of what alternative provision looks like in Coventry and Solihull.

"This is a result of our common goals, shared vision and ethos, and our joint commitment to curriculum intervention, along with our positive outcomes for our students".

The school which has sites in Wyken and Potters Green will join the SAPMAT in September and change its name to Coventry Alternative Provision Academy.
