MSU sets new records with MAB Excellence in Broadcasting Awards

STARKVILLE, Miss.-Mississippi State claimed numerous honors at the recent Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Excellence in Broadcasting Awards, with the University Television Center taking a record 11 first place awards and its fourth consecutive Achievement Award.

The UTC, recognized in many categories, received the Achievement Award in the noncommercial TV division and is the only organization to have won the award for best overall product four consecutive years in all three competitive divisions.

UTC's first place awards include:

-"What Matters 2024," commercial announcement 30 seconds or less; David Garraway, James Parker and Sid Salter.

-"Taking Care of What Matters," commercial announcement over 30 seconds; David Garraway, James Parker and Don Warren.

-"Farm to Fork: Northeast Mississippi Foodie Trail," commercial campaign; Hannah Baker, Brett Thornburg and Don Warren.

-"On the Farm - Season Two," special report; Olivia Aylsworth, David Garraway and James Parker.

-"Any of Them," feature story; Olivia Aylsworth, James Parker and Don Warren.

-News videographer, first place (tie); Don Warren and Olivia Aylsworth.

-"Maroon Dreams 2023," public service announcement; David Garraway and Melanie Harris.

-"The Stuff of Nightmares," documentary; Hal Teasler, James Parker and David Garraway.

-"9/20," sports story; David Garraway, James Parker and Hal Teasler.

Terry Likes, professor and head of MSU's Department of Communication, also won first place in sports story and use of sound radio categories and second place in documentary radio as a contributing editor for MSU's WMSV-FM.

Additionally, UTC brought home several second and third place awards all in the TV noncommercial division, including:

-"Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering Promotion," commercial announcement over 30 seconds; Hal Teasler, Brett Thornburg and Don Warren.

-"Mariah," documentary; Olivia Aylsworth, David Garraway and James Parker.

-"Puppies with a Purpose," feature story; Hannah Baker and Don Warren.

-"Spring Commencement 2023," public affairs program; UTC staff.

-"Bully Move 2023," public service announcement; Sam Baker, David Garraway and Don Warren.

-"Inside State: Colvard Student Union," feature story; Hannah Baker and Raylen Ladner.
