We must focus on forward-looking elements of Hungarian-German relations

On Tuesday in the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt Reiner Haseloff with whom he spoke about multiple topics, including illegal migration as well as economic and educational cooperation, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

At the meeting, Mr Orbán said we greatly appreciate the minister president's commitment to the development of Hungarian-German bilateral relations, his sincere partnership and sober approach to political and ideological debates. Today, our negotiating partners themselves admit that time has proved the Hungarian position right, including in taking action against illegal migration.

The parties highlighted at the meeting that Germany is an important ally as well as an economic and strategic partner of Hungary. Therefore, we must focus on the forward-looking elements of our cooperation, including defence policy, trade, innovation and international development even if the Hungarian and German governments stand for different positions on some political issues.
