Press Release

Roubaix - April 24th 2024 - OVHcloud, the European Cloud leader, is taking part in the 2024 Open Compute Project (OCP) EMEA Regional Summit happening today in Lisbon (Portugal). This year, the Group aims at igniting a broader conversation with the Community through the contribution to open-source projects, supported by the release of new whitepapers on certain R&D developments, as well as various expert talks.

Inspiring the industry to minimize overall Cloud Environmental impact

Through the years OVHcloud has dedicated significant resources to minimize cloud computing's environmental impact through numerous bespoke developments and a unique vertically integrated industrial model. With datacenters boasting leading PUE & WUE indexes, the Group aims at driving the conversation around sustainability. The 2024 OCP EMEA Regional Summit attendees will get unique insights and reflections on the Group's commitments in numerous areas: innovation, lifespan extension, water cooling, power efficiency as well as datacenter development.

Open-Source as a Catalyst to Innovation

OVHcloud promotes a transparent, reversible, interoperable and open Cloud. At the heart of this vision lies Open-Source and the belief that a vibrant ecosystem of actors sharing common values ultimately leads to tangible benefits. With each party being extremely qualified, efficient and profitable in its own area of expertise, Open-Source acts as a catalyst for better and faster innovations. Thanks to its vertically integrated industrial model, OVHcloud is able to quickly scale up these advances. For users, regular contributions to the Open-Source ecosystem means market standard solutions free of any vendor lock-in, participating to operational sovereignty.

"We are excited to see OVHcloud's continued commitment to open-source innovation and sustainability through their contributions to the Open Compute Project. Their expertise in areas such as water cooling and efficient data center design brings tremendous value to the OCP community. We look forward to the insights and collaboration at this year's OCP 2024 EMEA Regional Summit," said Bijan Nowroozi, CTO of OCP Foundation.

OVHcloud contributions to OCP

For the 2024 edition of the Open Compute Project EMEA Regional Summit, the Group has submitted new contributions. Leveraging its expertise in water cooling, with over 20 years of development, OVHcloud shares with OCP members detailed specifications and designs for cooling environments with the following schematics: Manual Control Valve (here) and 3 Balls Flow Meter (here). Through dedicated whitepapers, the Group shares with the broader community its unique designs promoting efficiency in the datacenter through cost-effective designs now open-sourced.

"Innovation for freedom is what defines us at OVHcloud. We are thrilled to take this motto to new heights at the 2024 OCP EMEA Regional Summit, igniting conversations with our peers and contributing to various open-source projects. Open-source innovation, where every player involved is extremely qualified, is certainly the path to tackle the many challenges our industry faces particularly when it comes to environmental impact." said Miroslaw Klaba, R&D Director OVHcloud.

Open-Source Firmware for a sustainable management infrastructure

With its industrial model enabling it to control the overall value chain, the Group also relies on a number of software developments. As such, driving thousands of servers ideally requires an agile firmware stack with no proprietary technologies. In that respect, OVHcloud is working on Open-Source firmware through OpenBMC to ensure proper deployment of updates and guarantee security when servers are commissioned or decommissioned. Open Compute Project EMEA Regional Summit participants will get insights on OVHcloud's work with OpenBMC.
