Dr. Rowena Chambers to join WVU Medicine

Posted on 1/18/2022

PRINCETON, W.Va. - Hematologist/Oncologist Rowena Chambers, M.D., is joining WVU Medicine and the WVU Cancer Institute at its first location in southern West Virginia. Dr. Chambers will continue to provide care at her existing office located at 218 Undercliff Terrace in Princeton.

"I am privileged to usher in a new era of cancer care to southern West Virginia," Dr. Chambers said. "We appreciate WVU Medicine for looking into our cancer needs and assisting us in this effort."

After completing her medical education at the University of the East in Manila, Philippines, Chambers completed her fellowship in hematology/oncology at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. She has been providing care in the Princeton community for more than 40 years.

Cami Maxwell, F.N.P.-C., who has 23 years of experience as an oncology nurse, joined the practice yesterday (Jan. 17).

Patients needing infusion therapy will continue to receive those services at Princeton Community Hospital, an affiliate of the WVU Health System.

The care offered at the clinic and at Princeton Community Hospital is part of the broader services available to patients of WVU Medicine and the WVU Cancer Institute, including access to clinical trials, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and support services, as well as access to WVU Medicine's bench of specialists and subspecialists.

"I, together with my office staff and the oncology program at Princeton Community Hospital, are excited to join WVU Cancer Institute. It has been our priority to have quality cancer care close to home. To this end, we have maintained a 25-year accreditation with the Commission on Cancer," Chambers said.
"Cancer care is complex and rapidly evolving. Affiliation with the WVU Cancer Institute will allow us to serve our community better. It gives us access to world-class specialty oncologic and hematologic expertise. The WVU Cancer Institute has an array of services that we locally do not have. It supplements our capacity for genetic profiling, surgical oncology, reconstructive surgery, blood and marrow transplant, CAR-T cell therapy, social support, extensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and clinical trials."
The practice will be transitioning to the Epic Electronic Medical Record System, which is used by WVU Medicine hospitals and clinics and allows for greater collaboration of care in the local community and with the WVU Cancer Institute's sub-specialists in Morgantown.

Patients will be able to open a MyWVUChart account by visiting MyWVUChart.com. Through that portal, patients can manage their health records, communicate with their providers, and more.

"Personal communication with oncologic world-class subspecialty experts will allow us to provide coordinated cancer care in every step of the cancer journey," Chambers said.
